Advice for Temporary Workers

Important Safety Information

Please stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you have either:

  • A high temperature above 37.8 – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • A new, continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly

Notify your local branch by phone or email and DO NOT attend your assignment.

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you are staying at home.

Please stay at home in isolation:

  • For 7 days if you have symptoms
  • For 14 days if you live with other people who have symptoms, from the day the first person had those symptoms.

If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days, contact NHS 11 online. IF you have no Internet access, call NHS 111. For a medical emergency, dial 999.

If you have no symptoms, we still ask you to limit social contact and follow the government guidelines of social distancing where possible.

Safety on Site

Our clients are working hard to ensure the safety of their workers and so we ask our temporary workers to please follow the advice laid out by the clients and the managers at the site you are attending for your assignment.

If a temporary worker has concerns about their safety at work, they should call their local branch immediately.

Safety in Branch

To ensure the safety of our temporary workers and our staff, we ask you not to visit the branch during this time.

You can contact the branch via phone or email and if a visit is necessary it will be done by appointment only.

New to The Best Connection or to Temporary Work?

We are still looking for new workers to help us support the NHS, Supermarkets and critical supply chains, so to ensure the safety of all of our staff and workers we have modified our interview process during this challenging time.

We will now be registering workers online and all interviews will be conducted over the phone rather than in person.

Note: You may still be required to bring documents into branch, but if this is necessary, all measures will be taken to avoid close contact with others and the appointment will be extremely brief.

Information For our Current Temporary Workers

Temporary Worker Timesheets

Please DO NOT post timesheets through the branch letterbox or bring them into the office.

All timesheets should be submitted electronically, either via eFax or email to your local branch. There are many free apps available for Android and Apple phones which allow you to photograph or ‘scan’ the document which can then be emailed into your local branch. If you have any problems, please call your local branch.

Timesheets can be scanned using the “notes” app on an apple device, or the following apps can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store:

For Android please see the following free apps on the Google Play Store:

Temporary Key Worker Letters

In line with the recent school closures and government lockdown guidance we believe it is essential we provide documentation to identify temporary workers who would be deemed ‘key workers’ in order to ensure our continual support of critical sectors as identified by the government. This document can then be provided to their schools to request childcare support, but it can also be provided to the authorities if they are challenged given our current lock down situation.

Temporary workers on assignment in the following sectors will be able to request a key worker letter from their local branch:

  1. NH Direct or Indirect
  2. Transport & Logistics sector
  3. Food and other necessary goods
  4. Health and social care, including supply chains
  5. Public Sector

If appropriate, this will be emailed to the temporary worker.

Temporary Worker Sick Pay

Temporary Workers' sick pay will be paid in line with the emergency legislation proposed by the Government allowing statutory sick pay to be made on the first day of sickness absence.
