Calling all ladies . . .

Date: 12th Friday, August, 2016

After a long spell of male domination, we now have a female PM with Theresa May.  Across the Atlantic we may also see Hilary Clinton elected as the first female President of the United States. In Scotland, we have Nicola Sturgeon flying the SNP flag and Germany’s Angela Merkel has been managing affairs for some years.  We will now have female combat troops in the British Army serving in the infantry.  It is refreshing to see so many women achieving the top spots in politics and corporate businesses and entering the bastions of male-dominated professions, though the board rooms are still predominantly a man-made affair.  During the Second World War, gender was not a barrier to helping support the war efforts.  It was all hands to the grindstone!  Physicality was not a barrier to work.  In today’s society fewer females are attracted to more physically demanding roles but this doesn’t have to be the case.   Women have been represented in the transport industry for many years and are just as good as as their male counterparts yet there is a shortage of ladies willing to take on driving jobs.

At TBC, female drivers represent just 1.15% of the temporary workforce and we would like to see more ladies joining the team.

If you would like to hear someone’s opinion on their experience, have a look at this short Transport Committee video:
