The Best Connection Supports Helping Grimsby’s Young People into Employment

The Best Connection was proud to support Year 11 students at Ormiston Maritime Academy in Grimsby this February, taking part in a mock interview event designed to prepare young people for employment and future career pathways.

Representing The Best Connection, Aleks Kreicbergs attended the academy’s structured mock interview morning, joining a wide range of local employers and education providers to help students build confidence, practise interview techniques and develop essential employability skills.

Preparing Young People for Employment in North East Lincolnshire

Hosted at Ormiston Maritime Academy, Grimsby, the event was carefully organised to give students meaningful, real-world interview experience as they prepare for their next steps after school.

20 interview stations had been set up and central seating arranged for student rotation. Four student groups were coordinated throughout the morning, ensuring a smooth and realistic experience that mirrored formal recruitment settings.

Using question sets provided by the academy, Aleks interviewed several Year 11 students across the session, offering constructive feedback in real time to help them refine their answers and build confidence.

Aleks said:

“It was a fantastic morning and a privilege to represent The Best Connection at Ormiston Maritime Academy. Many of the students demonstrated strong communication skills, eagerness to learn and a genuine desire to improve. Being able to provide feedback there and then was incredibly rewarding, especially seeing their confidence grow as the interviews progressed.”

Supporting Youth Employability and Career Readiness

For many students, mock interviews are their first experience of a formal interview environment. Initiatives like this play an important role in:

  • Developing communication and interpersonal skills
  • Improving confidence under pressure
  • Encouraging professional presentation
  • Supporting career awareness
  • Preparing young people for employment, apprenticeships or further education

As a national recruitment business with strong local presence in Grimsby and the wider North East Lincolnshire area, The Best Connection understands the importance of supporting young people at this critical transition stage.

Engaging directly with Year 11 students provided a valuable opportunity to highlight career pathways, discuss workplace expectations and reinforce the importance of preparation and resilience when entering the job market.

Our Commitment to Community and Social Responsibility

At The Best Connection, supporting local communities is an important part of our wider Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG commitments

Through school engagement, apprenticeship programmes, employability initiatives and community partnerships, we aim to:

  • Improve access to employment opportunities
  • Support skills development
  • Strengthen local workforce capability
  • Create sustainable pathways into work

Lee Harris, Director at The Best Connection, commented:

“Engagement with local schools such as Ormiston Maritime Academy reflects our commitment to supporting young people as they take their first steps into employment. As a recruitment business operating across the UK, we recognise the importance of investing time and expertise into our communities. Initiatives like this help build confidence, raise aspirations and strengthen future talent pipelines locally.”

Events like the Year 11 mock interviews demonstrate the practical ways in which businesses can contribute to community development beyond recruitment alone.

Continuing to Support Local Career Development in Grimsby

The mock interview morning at Ormiston Maritime Academy was impactful, well organised and genuinely rewarding to be part of. We would welcome the opportunity to continue supporting similar initiatives across Grimsby, the wider region and the UK.

By working collaboratively with schools, employers and education providers, we can help ensure young people are better prepared, more confident and ready to take their next steps into the world of work.
