Celebrating 30 Incredible Years: A Milestone for Director Lee

This year marks an incredible milestone at The Best Connection, as we celebrate 30 years of service from Director Lee Harris – a leader who has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s journey, values, and continued success since its inception in 1991. 

Having joined the business in its formative years during the early 1990s, Lee has been a driving force behind countless achievements. His commitment to people, passion for progress, and dedication to both our people and clients have left a lasting impact, not just within the company, but across the broader recruitment industry. 

To honour this milestone, we caught up with Lee to reflect on his remarkable journey from early career memories and lessons learned, to standout moments and what the future might hold. Here’s what he had to say… 

“I still remember my first day like it was yesterday. We’d just opened our second branch in Walsall, and the business was still in its early days. There was a buzz in the air – a mix of excitement, ambition, and a real sense of camaraderie. Everyone was hands-on and committed to building something special. That feeling of being part of something bigger has stayed with me ever since. 

While so much has changed at The Best Connection since I started, from our scale and structure to the technology that now supports our day-to-day, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to people. That includes the clients we serve, the temporary workers we support, and the colleagues we work alongside every day. Embracing innovation is important, but staying grounded in our core values matters even more. 

Throughout my career, I’ve been influenced and inspired by so many people – from our founders and senior leaders who lead with vision, to colleagues at every level whose dedication and resilience have shaped not just the business, but my own journey too. 

I’ve also had the opportunity to be part of several key initiatives, including embedding our four strategic pillars across the business and chairing our Regional Operations meetings, which bring our teams together and help maintain strong alignment as we continue to grow. 

This past year however, I’ve felt especially proud to see how our teams have embraced our transition to an Employee Owned Business model. There’s a real sense of shared responsibility and pride, and I’ve no doubt that will play a key role in shaping our future success. 

Looking ahead, I’m excited about where we’re going. I believe we’ll continue to lead in the world of flexible workforce solutions, using data and technology to enhance how we connect people with opportunities – all while staying true to the culture that’s got us this far. 

If I could offer advice to my younger self, or to someone just starting out at The Best Connection I’d say: stay open to change, be fearless, and never underestimate the power of relationships. Ask questions, be curious, and give everything a go. This is a business that rewards passion, effort, and integrity. 

If I’ve helped people grow, supported our values, and left even a small positive mark on the careers of others over the past 30 years, then that’s a legacy I’ll always be proud of.
