A Day in the Life: Branch Administrator
Guest Blog by Anna, Branch Administrator at The Best Connection Exeter
‘At The Best Connection Exeter, every day is unique in my role as a Branch Administrator. My tasks vary, but the goal remains the same: to ensure the office runs smoothly and everything is taken care of.
The start of my week is focused on payroll, which takes up a good portion of my time. Once payroll is completed, I send costings to clients that require them, complete license and visa checks, and process any holiday requests that have come in. I also chase clients for PO numbers. As the week progresses, I send timesheets to clients for completion, which I use to process payroll when I return on the following Monday.
On a daily basis, I manage the branch email inbox, respond to queries, and answer the phone. Pay queries from temps and clients are a common part of my role, and I’m also responsible for managing the branch’s Facebook page. I communicate with temporary workers and people seeking work who come into the office, ensuring they have the information they need. I also create a to-do list, prioritising tasks and ticking them off as I complete them. Notes and reminders are essential in keeping me organised and on track.
Throughout the week, my focus is ensuring temporary workers are paid correctly and on time. Toward the end of the week, I ensure holiday pay is processed and prepare for the next payroll cycle. All queries are addressed as promptly as possible, and all tasks are completed efficiently. I support the wider team by assisting with admin tasks such as posting timesheets, helping with pay queries, and ensuring payroll is completed on time for review.
During busy periods, organisation is key. Being able to multitask and communicate effectively with the team ensures everything runs smoothly even during peak times. With numerous deadlines to meet and unexpected tasks arising daily, being organised ensures everything is completed on time and to a high standard.
To keep the branch running efficiently, I have a plan in place that outlines the tasks I need to complete each day along with their deadlines. Communication with the team is essential to keep everyone informed and ensure no tasks are overlooked.
The best part of being part of the team is the constant support I receive. My colleagues are always ready to offer help and advice, and their appreciation for the work I do makes me feel valued and part of a close-knit team.
For anyone considering a career in administration, my advice is to always ask for help when needed. The learning curve can be steep at first, but with support from experienced colleagues, you’ll quickly become familiar with the systems and tasks.
Being a Branch Administrator is a rewarding role, offering variety and the opportunity to support both the team and the business. The ability to keep everything organised, work collaboratively with my colleagues, and help things run smoothly is what makes it so enjoyable. I would highly recommend becoming a Branch Administrator at The Best Connection.’
