The Best Connection are recruiting Platers on behalf of our client, a leading metal fabrication specialist based in Gateshead.

This is a temp-to-perm role with a permanent contract available for the right person.

The Role

• Mark out, cut, shape, and prepare structural steel plates and sections according to engineering drawings.
• Work closely as part of a skilled fabrication team to ensure efficient assembly of heavy components.
• Guide and position heavy steel sections using standard workshop manual handling techniques and overhead cranes.
• High-precision fabrication work - efficiency, care, and accuracy are essential.
• Safety-focused role - you'll represent both the client and The Best Connection in a professional and safe manner.

The Candidate

• Relevant NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds qualification in Fabrication and Welding, or a verifiable time-served engineering apprenticeship.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and structural blueprints accurately.
• Smart appearance and excellent communication skills.
• Reliable, flexible, and quality-focused.
• Physical fitness for heavy industrial workshop environments, including lifting and standing.

Hours of Work and Pay

• Day shift - Monday to Friday, working 37 hours per week.
• £17.50 per hour standard rate.
• x1.5 (£26.25 per hour) overtime rate applicable for the first 4 hours worked on a Saturday.
• x2 (£35.00 per hour) overtime rate applicable after 4 hours worked on a Saturday.
