Lead Design Engineer

Salary: £58,500 | Hybrid: 3 days in office

Hours: Mon-Thu 8:30-17:00 | Fri 8:30-16:30

Overview

One of our World leading design, manufacturing and installation clients are seeking a Lead Design Engineer to oversee design activities within the organisation. This role involves managing a design team to deliver innovative standard, configured, and bespoke engineering solutions while ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor cross-functional technical teams, setting clear goals and providing performance feedback.
• Plan and manage design projects from concept through to completion.
• Design complex mechanical systems, perform simulations, and lead optimisation projects considering cost and sustainability.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, prototyping, testing, and validation.
• Apply Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering principles to support efficient production.
• Collaborate with production, software/electrical, quality, and aftersales teams.
• Liaise with suppliers and external partners to resolve technical challenges.
• Ensure designs meet ISO standards and maintain accurate technical documentation and reporting.

Requirements

• HNC/HND in a technical discipline (preferably Mechanical Engineering).
• Experience in bespoke machine design and project delivery.
• Commissioning and site experience.
• Strong leadership, project management, and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (concepts, layouts, detailing, ISO dimensioning).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
