Assistant Accountant
Sheffield | Full-Time | £25,500 - £28,000 DOE

The Best Connection is recruiting for one of our client engineering companies based in Sheffield.

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join a busy finance team within a well-established engineering and manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting career in a varied role where no two days are the same.

Working alongside the Head of Finance in a small, supportive finance department, you'll play a key role in managing the day-to-day financial operations while also having the opportunity to get involved in payroll and finance improvement projects as your experience grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing supplier invoices
• Posting and allocating bank payments
• Matching bank transactions
• Preparing payment runs
• Credit control and debt chasing
• Reconciling supplier and customer accounts
• Resolving supplier and customer account queries
• Liaising with the customer service team
• Supporting ad-hoc finance tasks and projects
• Assisting with payroll (training provided where appropriate)

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Has at least 1 year's accounting or finance experience (preferred)
• Is confident using Microsoft Excel
• Has excellent attention to detail
• Enjoys problem solving and working in a fast-paced environment
• Has strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Can adapt to change and enjoys improving processes
• Is looking for a long-term opportunity within a growing business

This role would suit someone who enjoys variety and taking ownership of their work. It is ideal for a candidate who wants to contribute to continuous improvement rather than performing the same repetitive tasks every day.

Hours

38-hour working week

• Monday to Thursday: 8:30am - 5:00pm
• Friday: 8:30am - 3:45pm

Salary

£25,500 - £28,000 per annum, depending on experience.

This will be temporary to permanent role for the right candidate after completing probation period.
