Holiday Pay Changes
How Your Holiday Is Tracked
Holiday entitlement is now tracked in hours, not days. Your entitlement stays the same – the update only affects how holiday is recorded and paid.
This ensures holiday is calculated fairly for all workers, including those with changing shift patterns.
Examples
• If you usually work an 8-hour shift, request 8 hours for a full day off.
• For a half day, request 4 hours.
• If you’re not sure, you can request a “full day”, or a specific number of hours/part hours, and your branch will calculate the correct figure based on your average shift length.
How You Earn Holiday (Accrual)
You earn (accrue) holiday as you work.
For every hour you work, you earn 12.07% holiday, unless your assignment specifies a higher rate.
This is the equivalent of 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year.
Example:
If you work 40 hours in a week, you earn:
- 40 × 12.07% = 4.83 hours of holiday
How Holiday Pay Is Calculated
When you take holiday, you will be paid your average hourly pay.
This average is based on:
• the last 52 weeks you have worked, or
• your start date if you have worked fewer than 52 weeks.
Your holiday pay reflects:
• the hours you worked
• the rate of pay you received
• any variations in shift length or pay
Your entitlement stays the same – the update only affects how holiday is recorded and paid.
How to Request Holiday
You can request holiday by contacting your local branch.
When making a request:
• Ask for the number of hours you want to take off.
• If unsure, you can request a “full day” or a specific number of hours and your branch will confirm the correct amount.
• You must have accrued enough holiday to cover the hours requested.
