Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
At The Best Connection, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct and corporate responsibility in all aspects of our operations. We recognize that slavery and human trafficking are grave violations of human rights, and we are dedicated to preventing their occurrence in our supply chains and business practices.
As a responsible recruiter, we acknowledge the potential risks associated with our industry and the vulnerability of temporary workers. We strive to ensure that all individuals engaged through our services are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
Core Processes
In tackling slavery and human trafficking in our business we seek to follow these steps:
- Identifying areas of risk within our business and supply chain.
- Taking steps to mitigate those risks.
- Monitoring the ongoing effectiveness of our risk prevention.
- Protecting and encouraging whistle-blowers.
Recruitment Safeguards
We adhere to the highest levels of compliance within the recruitment industry and rigorously enforce a transparent and compliant recruitment process.
Recruitment of Temporary Workers
- All applicants who register for work with The Best Connection must do so in person.
- All applicants are interviewed face to face and any documentation is completed in sight of our trained staff.
- All Application Forms include questions and information relating to modern slavery.
- Our staff are trained in spotting signs of modern slavery and in providing a safe environment for temporary staff to come forward with their concerns.
- All workers are provided with a handout containing contact information for confidential support and resources about slavery and human trafficking.
Payment of Temporary Workers
- Payslips are always made available to the individual online.
- Temporary workers are paid by BACS into their own bank account or that of their partner, or in rare circumstances, by personal cheque.
Shared Bank Accounts
- Our Head Office based Compliance Team interrogates our temporary worker database to identify any temporary workers who share the same bank account or address with other temporary workers on our payroll. Each case is individually investigated by our local branch personnel who will question the temporary workers to establish the reasons behind the shared bank accounts or addresses.
Additional Measures
To fulfil our commitment to combating slavery and human trafficking, we have implemented the following measures:
Strict Compliance:
- We have a dedicated compliance team, which relies upon the support of the following staff and departments: Legal, Audit & Compliance, Procurement, Sales and Training. We adhere strictly to all applicable laws and regulations related to slavery and human trafficking in the jurisdictions where we operate.
Supply Chain Due Diligence:
- We have zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking within our supply chain, and as such we conduct thorough due diligence on our suppliers and partners to assess their compliance with anti-slavery and human trafficking laws and standards.
Employee Training and Awareness:
- We believe that training is a fundamental tool in the fight against modern slavery. We provide training and awareness programs to our employees to recognize and mitigate the risks of slavery and human trafficking in our operations. Our employees are educated in the need to provide a safe environment for temporary staff to come forward with their concerns.
Transparent Reporting:
- We maintain transparent reporting mechanisms to encourage the reporting of any concerns related to slavery and human trafficking, and we promptly investigate and address such reports.
Partnering with Our Clients:
- We recognise that it is our clients who are best placed to spot the signs of modern slavery on a day-to-day basis and so we provide our clients with materials to assist them in spotting modern slavery and support them in their endeavours.
Continuous Improvement:
- We continuously review and improve our policies, procedures, and practices to prevent and address any instances of slavery and human trafficking effectively.
Our Commitment
We recognize that eradicating slavery and human trafficking requires collective action, and we are committed to working collaboratively with our stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, employees, and communities, to combat these egregious human rights violations.
This statement reflects our firm commitment to ethical business practices and our determination to contribute to a world free from slavery and human trafficking.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement.
