The Best Connection targets over 50’s at New Directions event
Date: 24th Monday, July, 2017
The Best Connection was among a number of industries recently represented at the New Directions employment exhibition organised by the Minister for Employment and MP for East Hampshire, Damian Hinds. The event aimed to attract people in their 50’s who are looking for new employment, retraining and voluntary work opportunities.
“There are now more, older people in employment than ever before which is great news, but we must keep up this momentum. It’s good for employers, good for employees and good for the economy,” said Damian Hinds, MP.
According to Government statistics, the employment rate for people aged 50 to 64 has increased 14.2% over the past 30 years to 69.6%. Those aged 65 and over has doubled during the same period to 10.2%. The 70-74-year-old group has seen a huge growth in the past decade with over a quarter of a million people now in employment.
The introduction at the event was delivered by Alastair Stewart OBE, with Masterchef 2016 winner, Jane Devonshire, sharing her story of taking a new direction in later life.
“The ageing population is creating a huge resource of experience and knowledge which is benefitting industry across the UK. We do not view age as a boundary to employment and encourage those with relevant skills to speak to their local consultants about opportunities,” says Neil Yorke, Director, The Best Connection.
The Best Connection was represented by consultants from its Guildford Branch who promoted the company’s vacancies for temporary and permanent staff within the industrial, driving, retail and distribution sectors. As an equal opportunities employer, the company is enthusiastic about supporting the over 50’s employment sector.
