We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head Chef to lead a dedicated kitchen team at a prestigious venue in Monmouthshire, renowned for delivering exceptional cuisine and service for weddings and exclusive events.

Role Overview

  • You will be responsible for consistently producing restaurant-quality food of the highest standard, ensuring excellent flavour, presentation, and portion size for large numbers of guests across weddings, breakfasts, and other food services. Alongside this, you will oversee the smooth running of the kitchen, managing profit areas, stock and waste control, health and safety compliance, hygiene standards, and staff training
  • Lead and manage your team through effective planning, communication, training, support, and performance management — including recruitment, promotion, and, where necessary, disciplinary action
  • Deliver dishes that exceed expectations in terms of taste, quality, and presentation, while encouraging innovation and continual improvement
  • Uphold the company’s mission by maintaining exceptional service and venue standards for bridal parties, guests, and prospective clients
  • Understand and manage financial targets, budgets, and forecasts, aiming to meet or exceed them through cost control and operational efficiency
  • Ensure full compliance with all operating procedures, policies, and service standards

Duties

  • Understand and work within the organisational structure and management framework
  • Hold regular meetings with key team members to review and improve kitchen operations
  • Liaise weekly with the venue manager and executive chef to plan and prioritise activities
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management to your team
  • Manage all recruitment processes, ensuring legal compliance and suitability of candidates
  • Address performance issues and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies
  • Foster a positive team culture, resolve issues promptly, and motivate staff to perform at their best
  • Maintain and enhance the reputation and integrity of the brand
  • Build strong relationships with internal colleagues and external partners
  • Monitor financial performance, control costs, and maximise profit margins
  • Schedule staff rotas effectively to meet service demands while controlling labour costs
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality
  • Ensure thorough induction and ongoing training for all staff to maintain SOP compliance
  • Work closely with front of house management to guarantee smooth, high-quality service
  • Encourage and contribute to new culinary ideas, techniques, and menu development
  • Participate in senior chef meetings to help shape the food vision while maintaining brand standards
  • Ensure food storage, preparation, and service meet the highest standards without compromising cost control
  • Review menus regularly with the Executive Head Chef to align with current market trends
