From Apprentice to Recruitment Professional: My Journey with The Best Connection

Guest Blog by Tara Trninic, Recruitment Consultant at The Best Connection Truro

‘The Best Connection has supported me in ways I never expected, particularly during my Level 3 Recruitment Services apprenticeship.

When I first started with the business in February 2023, I had no prior experience in the recruitment industry, so understandably I initially felt uncertain about how I would adapt to the role and its responsibilities. However, the Recruitment Services apprenticeship gave me with the structure, guidance and support I needed to truly understand the details of the industry and the expectations of the role.

Through the apprenticeship, I developed a solid foundation of skills and knowledge that I could immediately apply to my day-to-day work. This was crucial in helping me quickly excel in my role. The structured learning approach, combined with hands-on experience, allowed me to grow both professionally and personally in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

My apprenticeship specifically focused on developing knowledge of legislation, interview techniques, building consultative client relationships, understanding who our competitors are and how I can ensure the service offered meets client’s needs. The one-to-one support from my trainer was also great, offering guidance whenever I needed it.  By the time I reached end point assessment, I had the skills and confidence to deliver the best possible service to both clients and temporary workers, leading to a Distinction grade.

Over the past two years in my role, I’ve achieved milestones that seemed out of reach when I first started. I’ve been fortunate to successfully convert a significant number of clients and build strong, lasting relationships with them and candidates. These achievements are a direct result of how well the apprenticeship prepared me for the challenges of recruitment.

One of the most important aspects of my journey has been the boost in confidence I have gained. This confidence isn’t just about my ability to perform well but also about my potential to grow and thrive within the recruitment industry.

Another standout moment for me was winning The Best Connection’s Director’s Apprentice of the Year award during National Apprenticeship Week 2024. It was truly an unforgettable experience and a huge honour to have my hard work and dedication in my role recognised by the business and especially the Senior Leadership Team and Directors. To see the tangible results of my efforts, whether in client success or personal growth has been incredibly rewarding.

For anyone considering an apprenticeship, I cannot recommend The Best Connection and their apprenticeship scheme enough. Not only have I gained valuable industry knowledge and practical skills, but I’ve also grown my confidence and belief in myself and my abilities.
